Access and aids for people with disabilities
There is wheelchair access from both front and rear of the building. From the
front, please use the left-hand path as this leads to the ramped access and to a
single door which is much easier for wheelchair users. From the rear, where the
car park is situated, there is a small area of hard standing next to the ramp
leading to the door into the church entrance hall. The ramps give access to the
whole building (i.e. both church and hall): there are no steps or other access difficulties
between the two parts.
There is ample room for wheelchairs in the church, so there is no problem
with wheelchair users staying in their chairs during the service. There is one
step up to the communion rail, but we are always very happy to bring communion
to any in the congregation who find it difficult to get to the rail, and since
this happens at virtually every service it is done without any sense of
embarrassment or awkwardness.
There is a hearing loop system in the church which is used for all Sunday
services.
Large print service booklets/sheets, Bibles and hymn/song books are always
available. The weekly Family News information sheet is also produced in a large
print version. When the overhead projector is used for hymns or songs, a large
print copy on paper will normally be available.
If you find sitting in hard pews difficult (actually ours are more
comfortable than those in some churches!), cushions are available - please
just ask. There is a fully-fitted accessible toilet for wheelchair users, and
this can be reached without difficulty from both the church and the hall. |
